First Kisses
There were two kisses Aurora remembered as her “first”. Naturally, there was her actual first kiss. The other was the first one she shared with Isabella. That was the first one that had felt right.
Her actual first kiss was with a boy named Tony, during those daring, experimental years of middle school. There was little to speak well on, but for some reason Aurora still remembered every detail. They had just gone out for pizza on something like a date, though neither of them called it that. The pizza smell was still on Tony’s mouth. It was dark on his parent’s front porch. His parents had gone inside to let them say goodnight in peace. Liberal-minded, or just clueless, who could say?
Slowly, Tony and her had leaned together. They’d had a good time that night. It seemed like the next thing to do, right? It’s what the grown-ups did. But there was no real spark. When their lips met, it just felt weird. It lasted only a second. They both stared at each other after that. Aurora was pretty sure it was Tony’s first kiss, too, based on the stunned look on his face.
Tony’s mother called him inside, breaking whatever little spell there was. He just muttered “’night” and vanished into his house. Aurora had supposed at the time she should have felt upset by that. Instead she had just shrugged. This was what people got all worked up about?
It wasn’t until years later when Isabella came along… that’s when Aurora learned what they meant by sparks flying.
