Regrets

“Do you ever regret it?”

“What? Triggering the apocalypse?”

“No, not that. That was inevitable. I mean-”

“Razing down all the cities of mankind?”

“They had it coming. What I was going to say was-”

“Stealing that kid's lunch money?”

“You were five years old. And would you let me finish, please?”

“Go ahead.”

“Do you ever regret not saying goodbye?”

“To my family, you mean?”

“Family, friends, lovers. All those attachments you left behind.”

“Not really. I had a cause. I pursued. Those who were close to me would know that. And those that weren't... well, they don't really matter much, do they?”

“I guess. It's just that...”

“What, there was some goodbye you wish you'd said?”

“Yeah. Maybe. I dunno.”

“Who? I don't remember you having much in the way of friends or family.”

“I didn't. Not really. Just one brother who I ever really connected with. I thought about telling him what was happening. Where to go to escape the worst before the end came.”

“So why didn't you? None of us would have blamed you. Plenty of us did the same.”

“I think... I think I was afraid he'd talk me out of it.”

“In that case, I'm glad you didn't. We need you here. It wouldn't be the same without you.”

“Thanks. It's... good to be appreciated, I guess. What is the status of Ontario, by the way?”

“Zombie outbreak, last time I checked.”

“Well that's something. He has a fighting chance, at least.”
