No Such Thing
“Well,” Kitt said. “This day couldn't possibly get any worse.” He rubbed his arms futilely against the cold. The pouring rain stripped any heat away as fast he could make it.
“Don't say that,” Georgina said, huddled in her too-small rain jacket. “You remember what happened last time.”
“Just a fluke,” Kitt replied. They continued trudging forward down the muddy road. There had to be shelter ahead somewhere, right? They'd only been walking an hour. Plenty of light left. If you could call it “light”, anyway.
“Aw crap, now you're just asking for the pun -” Georgina stepped back, warned by some sixth sense.
That was when a flounder fell out of the sky and smacked Kitt right in the top of the head. He nearly bowled over. It had been going pretty fast. Kitt rubbed his head and looked at the scattered remnants of fish stuck in the mud. Dribbles of blood and fish guts ran down his neck.
“At least I won't have to wash my hair,” Kitt said with a smirk.
“When are you going to believe that curse was actually the real thing?” Georgina asked.
“No such thing as magic,” Kitt said with a stubborn jut of his jaw. He doubled his pace forward.
