...Well?
No, this isn't a sudden twist to the ending of Raiders. Just a lazy post about the complex feelings of having finished a story for the first time in a very long time. It's very first draft, has lots of holes, weird patches, and probably some inconsistencies. But I finished it. And it does have a coherent plot. Given that plotting is my nemesis, that's a big deal in itself.
I'm not sure what I'll do with it next, if anything. I could take what I have, polish it up, fill in the gaps, and try to publish. For now, though, I'm just going to sit back and think of it as an accomplishment in itself. I always tend to think in terms of "what's next". Makes me effective at work, I guess, but leaves very little time to appreciate things.
For some people, having written something like Raiders isn't a big deal. There are unpublished writers who put out way more, higher quality work than that on a regular basis. But for me, it's a major milestone that makes feel like I've actually grown as a result of this Five Minutes project.
For a while, I got to really just enjoy writing without thinking about the end result or being published or any of those nagging things that can plague a write along the way. If I am happy with the story, it need be for nothing more than that experience.
