Source-Breaking

Source-breaking is... well, it's a bit like trying to spray-paint with a fire hose. It's possible to turn it on just a little bit. It requires a lot of concentration to do it, though. You have to pay attention the entire time, because what it really wants to do is turn on full blast. Paint the town red, literally. In theory, it's possible to target something as small as a speck of dust. In my experience, it's a lot easier to just knock out a city block and count the dust as a casualty somewhere in there.

I don't know if it's like this for everyone. My understanding from Raeth is that source-making helps counter the break, making it a lot easier to fine-tune the result. If you get good enough, you can even Shape, which is somewhere between the two. I don't get that option, though. I somehow wound up with just one side of the coin. A monopole in a world where only dipoles have ever existed.

I like to think that, in the long run, this means I'm going to get a whole lot more proficient with Breaking than other 'formers ever get. It's a nice thought. It would be nice to have some benefit from what, in the Council's mind, is a dangerous handicap. In the meantime, though, I just get to go through every day like I'm holding in my bladder near bursting, only getting any relief when there comes a need to blow something up in a really, really big way.
