Beta's Little Escape
Beta stared at the blank wall of her room and thought about the events of the day. She couldn't remember the last time she'd gone outside the building. It must have been at least five years. Had it always been so bright? She couldn't recall.
It has been scary, but exciting. All that open sky overhead instead of the comforting, dull panels of the compound's hallways. And that little thrill of rebellion. Knowing she wasn't supposed to be out there. That her minders could catch her at any time.
Her lips turned up in a smile that she quickly squelched. This wasn't proper behavior. She could have gotten in trouble. This would be the last time. Tomorrow, she would tell them about the security issue in the east wing and that would be that.
Of course, she wouldn't tell them how she'd found it. A little secret couldn't hurt anyone.
